I thought I’d be able to get the next page lettered in time to post today but, apologies, it’s not happening. We’ll use the extra week to get the last stretch of this chapter “in the can.” Hang on, it’s gonna be a wild ride…
Apologies but my schedule has been overwhelming lately, and I’ve fallen behind in my PROTEGE duties. Hopefully in the next few weeks I can get back on schedule, but until then expect the updates to be a little sporadic.
That’s the not-so-good. The good is, the delays are in part because a number of exciting creative projects I’ve got in the pipeline are moving forward. My new play BURNERS will open in Los Angeles in March, 2017, produced by Moving Arts. BURNERS is set in a dystopian future where insurgent fighters are genetically engineered into human bombs. Additionally I’m writing and drawing a stand-alone comic book tie-in story set in the world of the play. If you follow my tumblr you’ve seen some test art I’ve been working on as I prepare to tackle this project as a writer/artist (yikes).
And then there’s a feature script I sold to an independent production company that is going through the rewrite/development process. It’s a supernatural drama and I’ll keep you updated on it’s progress as it moves ahead (or doesn’t, as is often the case with movies). I mainly want you all to know I’m not slacking… I can’t wait to get back to PROTEGE as soon as possible! — Terence
We’ll be back in action soon, with weekly updates beginning again on Wednesday, November 25. I’m really looking forward to sharing this next phase of PROTEGE as Trane and Allumette travel into dangerous territory to seek out Trane’s daughter.
Also, I was interviewed about PROTEGE by Timothy G. Cramer for his Provocative Praise site. Timothy’s had some very kind words about this webcomic and he’s turned me onto some other great comics with his insightful reviews. Check out the interview and bookmark Provocative Praise for Timothy’s great insights and commentary on storytelling.
I’m swamped, this week’s page is only half-lettered, and I’m about to call it quits for the day (sorry, all, I’m done). But today the collected volume of PROTEGE #1-5 is available on ComiXology, so there’s that! Not only do you get the awesome high-res art of Juan Romera in all its glory, this volume also features an exclusive backup story with art by Kay. Please check it out and/or spread the word!

Sorry, folks! The site got a mild hacking yesterday, and while dealing with that I decided to finally look into RSS alternatives beyond Feedburner. Add to the fact that I caught a nasty summer cold yesterday… you get the picture.
The RSS feed still seems to be busted after cleaning out the rest of the site, so I’m still looking into what the deal is. In the meantime, if you’ve subscribed via RSS, please use the form below to re-subscribe to get email notifications when I update PROTEGE (I promise to never send you anything else). Until next week…
In case you missed it during the latest hiatus, PROTEGE issues started dropping on ComiXology. Issues 1-4 are currently available, and #5 will be up soon. ComiXology is, in my opinion, currently the best platform for reading digital comics. And for less than a buck, you can read PROTEGE with their slick guided view tech and get a pdf download of each issue!
That’s right, we’re back, and very excited to begin the next story-arc! It’s gonna be four issues of action, intrigue and revelations. If you thought the first five issues were good, I guarantee you’ll love the new stuff we’ve got planned for Trane and Allumette.
Also, if you want to experience PROTEGE on the ComiXology platform, issues are available here.
Update #1: the Kickstarter for the PROTEGE graphic novel has launched! I’ve put in a lot of work to create a great campaign, and I hope you’ll like what it has to offer. I am really excited to see the print edition of PROTEGE become a reality, and even more jazzed to get this book into your hands!
Update #2: I’ve heard a lot of great things about Seattle’s Emerald City Comicon from other independent writers and artists, so I’m looking forward to setting up shop in the rainy city later this month. March 28 – 31, I’ll be in Artist Alley GG-02. If you’re attending ECCC stop by and say hey.
If you follow my tumblr, you may know I’ve had a western short story in the works since 2011. A HAPLESS SOUL is out now in DWP #8, the latest issue of Digital Webbing’s anthology series.
Set in 1875, the story opens with former army scout Elijah Sixkiller awaiting execution in a backwater jail. It’s a tale of “western weirdness” written by me with art by Marcello Abreu, colors by Rafael Gonzaga and letters by Kel. Cover is by Gav Heryng.

No page update this week, buuuuuuut:
PROTEGE issue 4 is now available for download in glorious high-res PDF, CBZ and CBR formats! As with all PROTEGE items, you can name your own price — just head over to The Depot or send an email to protegecomic@gmail.com.
